Mouse & Human Dendritic Cell Subsets

Dendritic Cells (DCs) provide a crucial link between the innate and adaptive immune response. This occurs primarily through their ability to capture, process, and present antigens to T cells, and regulate T cell functions in immunity and tolerance. This illustration highlights distinct DC subsets that exist in both human and mouse. The different DC subsets respond to distinct self and foreign antigen challenges, and exhibit different functional specialization. These subtypes can be characterized based on their tissue distribution, cell surface markers, and transcriptional programs.
